The Kansas City Chiefs selected KeiVarae Russell with their third pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Kansas City finally made its second pick of the night after trading with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, selecting KeiVarae Russell out of Notre Dame with the 74th-overall pick. The Chiefs went with defensive tackle Chris Jones out of Mississippi State in the second round, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound beast who should rotate with Jaye Howard and Allen Bailey.

As for Russell, he will come in and immediately compete to start alongside Marcus Peters and Phillip Gaines. According to NFL analyst Mike Mayock, the 5-foot-11, 192-pound corner can play inside and out, and also can give you some versatility as a safety. This is the ultimate in John Dorsey happiness, because the kid can do a little bit of everything.

Russell was academically ineligible in 2014 and played with a broken leg in 2015. Think about that. He played with a fractured leg. Yet he was able to play through the pain and then recovered wel enough to run a4.47 40-yard dash at his pro day.

This is a solid pick for Kansas City, which really needed to take a corner before the night was out. Dorsey has acquired a ton of picks, so the Chiefs will be busy on Day 3 with a whopping seven picks to roll out with, including three in the fourth round.
