Kansas City Chiefs strong safety Eric Berry missed the initial day of OTAs.

There will be a ton of talk about Eric Berry missing the first day of OTAs for the Kansas City Chiefs. The reality is he made the only move that makes any sense.

Right now, Berry has been given the franchise tag of $10.8 million for 2016. While some will scream that the money should be more than enough for him to come in on, it is not. Berry has not signed the tag, which means should he hurt himself at the present time, the Chiefs can yank the tag and pay him nothing.

In addition, Berry is hoping to get a long-term deal. He already has a torn ACL in his past. Berry would be a fool to participate in anything as silly as an OTA and jeopardize what could be $50 million. At this point, Berry should stay far away from team activities until he signs a long-term deal.

Outside linebacker Justin Houston was the only other player not at OTAs, although this was known. Houston is rehabbing from ACL surgery and won’t be able to play until the middle of August at the earliest.
