Marcus Peters earns extremely high praise from Eric Berry

After practice on Thursday afternoon, Kansas City Chiefs strong safety spoke to the local media.

Berry touched on a litany of topics, including his moment of running out of the Arrowhead tunnel last Thursday. Another question lobbed his way was about rookie cornerback Marcus Peters, who has been garnering national headlines for his play through two games. Peters is earning plenty of fans across the country, and apparently, in his locker room.

“He’s very athletic, but the thing I notice about him, he doesn’t depend on his athleticism. He depends on his technique and his film study and that’s very rare – especially for a rookie coming in. We talk about a lot of things, I want to see things from his perspective, he wants to see things from my perspective. That’s not just with him, that’s with our whole defense and the secondary. I think we’re in a place where we’re very cool with each other to where we can talk to anybody about anything. Marcus, he’s a different kind of cat. He’s a rare person that you deal with.”

This is a fascinating quote. Berry is saying that he sees Peters as a more cerebral player than anything else. If that is the case – and remember that his father is a long-time high school football coach – the Chiefs hit the lottery. Peters has incredible physical gifts, so if he is that intelligent, look out.

It is too bad someone did not ask Berry to elaborate on what he means with Peters being ‘a different kind of cat.’ I’m sure he was not taking a dig or anything, but in what way is he different? Is he quiet off the field? Is he hysterical? Hopefully one of the reporters asks this question in the coming days and weeks. Heck, we would all love to know more about our budding superstar.
