The Kansas City Chiefs are going to be playing a real game tonight!!! The opponent is the Arizona Cardinals, and the contest will take place at University of Phoenix Stadium at 8 p.m. CST. This is absolutely fantastic. The hell with it being a preseason game, we finally get to see some real football and find out which direction the guys on the roster bubble are headed.
In the meantime, here is all the news you need to know:
Five things you need to watch in the preseason opener – Terez Paylor of Kansas City Star
"Berry’s inspiring comeback story from Hodgkin lymphoma continues Saturday, but what isn’t clear is how much Berry will be involved. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that he’s optimistic Berry will play, but whether that happens remains to be seen, since Berry hasn’t done much hitting in camp. If he does play, it will be interesting to see what kind of role he’s in."
Chiefs 53-man roster preseason prediction – Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride
"The locks are the current starting offensive line. That was different two weeks ago so let’s be patient in how this line shakes out. The Chiefs could keep a third tackle (not counting Jeff Allen as a tackle) and Pughsley is ahead of Sherrod on the field. LDT and Stephenson would be solid backups so they’re very likely to make it. Fanaika started camp on the third team but has moved his way up to the second team."
It’s showtime for rookie cornerback Marcus Peters – Adam Teicher of ESPN
"The Chiefs have depth at cornerback but the need for Peters to be ready by the start of the regular season is strong. Sean Smith, the Chiefs’ best and only established cornerback, will be suspended by the NFL for the season’s first three regular-season games. Among the Chiefs’ opponents in that stretch are the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning and the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers."
Eric Fisher must play well on Saturday night – Adam Teicher of ESPN
"Nor were they unexpected from Fisher, even given his lofty draft status. He played in college at Central Michigan, a low-level FBS school. His major deficiency as a rookie was that he wasn’t strong enough to handle many of the bigger, stronger opponents he was going to face."
