The Kansas City Chiefs, in a surprising move in early 2013, claimed seven players from other teams around the league including unknown, Marcus Cooper.

Cooper, who was a seventh-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers, had signed a four-year contract with the team, before he was a victim in the final roster cuts for the team.

A former wide receiver, Cooper set records in receiving yards, touchdowns, receptions and consecutive games with a touchdown at his high school in Bloomfield, Connecticut. He also played wide receiver in college with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, but his limited playing time saw him switch to cornerback in his senior year.

It was in this year he started to see more production as a cornerback than he ever had as a receiver. This lead to many 2013 draft analysts seeing him go in the mid range of the draft, but he fell to 252nd-overall drafted by the Niners.

Marcus was behind then former Chiefs star, Brandon Flowers, until an injury to Flowers made coaches and fans take a harder look.

During 2013 Cooper was turning heads in the Chiefs Kingdom. In 16 games, six starts, he was able to total 44 tackles, 18 passed defended, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one recovery.

Many had thought the Chiefs had found untapped gold in the young player. He even received the Mack Lee Hill award that year for most productive rookie.

Then 2014 happened.
