49ers Will Be Coming After Chiefs’ QB Alex Smith in Preseason Clash

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Chiefs’ quarterback Alex Smith has been playing it cool in regard to Kansas City’s upcoming preseason game against his former team, the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers defense, on the other-hand, seems to be pretty excited to see him.

Here’s a quote from 49ers’ linebacker  NaVorro Bowman, who is looking forward to the opportunity to go up against Smith without a red caution jersey on, per The Associated Press (h/t Gregg Rosenthal/

“There’s a first time for everything,” linebacker NaVorro Bowman said, via The Associated Press, with a smile. “We never got a chance to hit him. This time we can. We’re looking forward to it. I know Alex knows we’re coming. It’s football, man.”

It’s obvious that Bowman isn’t being malicious here, and the 49ers aren’t “targeting” Smith per say. With that said, one doesn’t doubt the fact that San Francisco’s defense is excited to get after their former quarterback.

After all, they could never hit him in practice when he was with the 49ers, and even though everybody as a unit is a team, believe you me, there can be animosity at times between the offense and defense—especially when they’re competing against each other in practice.

Animosity may be too strong of a word actually. Look at it more as a healthy competitive drive.

At least on Friday night, the 49ers will have a chance to stick it to their old quarterback.

On the flip side, Smith will have a chance to light them up as well, so this will be a fun game to watch.

I hope AS shreds them, and makes them look foolish for treating him the way that they did, and I hope our “D” crushes Kap too
    Go Chiefs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jason Seibel

That’s ok…I’m sure Tamba and Houston feel the same way about CK7!

Dont forget DJ and how he has a nose to stop RB in the back field.

Niners can suck it! I too hope we light them up! GO CHIEFS!!!!!

Bring it Bitches , we got a little something for Kap as well…

I am very interested to see how the first teams do against the 9ers offense and defense. They are arguably the best team in the league. I wanna see how nasty our guys play in the trenches. I think we have better offensive weapons so I’d like to see some of our playmakers get loose. Should be a interesting first half tomorrow!

  • ArrowFan

I wonder if AS11 is looking forward to scoring on his old team?

  • Jim Harper

I don’t expect AS to get much more time on the field than he did last week. He will be lucky if he sees a full quarter

    • KCMikeG

While I understand how preseason works I was still unhappy after Pederson said a quarter for each QB and then AS was 1 80 yard/14 play TD drive and out. I would like to see my quarter in KC tomorrow night. Especially if AS is tearing them up. What a confidence builder for the team, shocker for the media, inspiration for a fan base that wants to set the Guinness Book of Records for NFL game decibels and return of honor to our storied franchise.

      • Jim Harper

I agree Mike, but I think you may have go wait on the Guinness record until Dallas comes to town Sept 15th. That game will be super important. It is going to tell us what we have.

        • KCMikeG

I think they are targeting the faider game for the record attempt. Goy my quarter times 2 tonight but wasn’t impressed. We were playing w/o our best player, playing against a SB team and the offense would have been more successful if the receivers would catch the damn ball!

  • KCMikeG

They can just leaves the lights off tomorrow night because Alex Smith is going to lighting it up! Time to get LOUD & PROUD SEA OF RED!!!!!!

  • Michael Shaw

Don’t forget D-Bowe and company get to go against former Raider Nhamdi Asa-whatever as well. Should be interesting to see Alex and Bowe connecting against that jerk after all the times with the Raiders he used to shut our WR’s down, most of the game!!

With all the hoopla about their defense coming after Smith, people seem to forget that our defense is right there with theirs when it comes to star power! Picture this ” in a cartoon” for safety sakes. CK being arrogant throws for a first down and kisses his arm while looking at smith, on the very next snap Dontari Poe spins threw his block and picks CK up slamming him to the ground before ripping his arm off and using it for a toothpick to remove any leftover BBQ that may be stuck in his grill. Suddenly they have no qb and well Poe has cleaner teeth! Win win in my book
