Chiefs Sign Romeo Crennel To Be Their Next Head Coach

Multiple sources are reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed a three-year deal with Romeo Crennel to make him their permanent head coach.

Joe Linta, Crennel’s agent has confirmed that the deal was done late Sunday night.

The Chiefs have scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m. Central today, likely to announce the move and introduce Crennel officially to the media.

More after the jump.

We’ve been over this but I really like this move for the Chiefs. Crennel was the obvious choice for this team and this group of players.

What is really important is that the team will be able to keep continuity, particularly on defense. Crennel’s D played very well down the stretch and they seemed to be turning a corner toward becoming an elite unit. You have to believe that the return of Eric Berry next season will push this group over the top.

Crennel has some work to do, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Still, his players love him and will likely play hard for their new coach.

Now the real work begins.
