Rumor: Randy Moss To The Chiefs?

I want to preface this by saying that this is just a rumor. It is being reported as a rumor and until we hear otherwise it is to be taken with a grain of salt.

But it is a rumor coming from a pretty reliable source.

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, who has been on top of a number of Chiefs-related news items this free agency, tweeted earlier that one rumor he is hearing is that Randy Moss could be coming to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Is it so crazy? Scott Pioli and Matt Cassel both have a history with Moss and it is no secret that the Chiefs have been aggressively trying to upgrade at the WR position this offseason. With the tough schedule the Chiefs will face this season, they could use all the mismatches they can get in the passing game.

Personally, I think it would be a smart, low risk move for the Chiefs. Moss will come extremely cheap and perhaps with a renewed motivation. If he were to sign a one-year deal with the Chiefs and he were to have a good season, he could likely earn himself one more payday before he hangs them up. If he comes in and is a problem or shows poor effort, the Chiefs can just cut him. No harm done.

I say all this because I don’t believe a guy can be a team cancer if you don’t let him hang around. Some guys get signed to huge contracts and then become a distraction because the team has so much money invested in them that they are reluctant to cut ties. That likely wouldn’t be the case with Moss.

So why not roll the dice? Thoughts?
