The Kansas City Chiefs announced that they have released TE Brad Cottam, a third round draft pick in 2008.
Cottam had a rough go of things in Kansas City. He was taken by Herm Edwards in his last draft but saw little playing time in 2008 because Tony Gonzalez was still on the team.
Cottam got his chance to shine in 2009 after Gonzalez was traded but Todd Haley never seemed that impressed with him. The team continued adding tight ends, bringing in Leonard Pope and Sean Ryan. Toward the end of the season, however, Cottam got some playing time and was performing well before landing on his head stretching for a first down in a game against the Cleveland Browns.
Cottam went to IR for the remainder of the season and stayed on IR all through 2010.
He had been working out with the team during the lockout. Unfortunately for Cottam, it looks like his time in KC is up.
