Week 17 at Kansas City Chiefs

Regardless of the records, Week 17 is the game everyone has circled on their calendars. Many wanted this game to open up the NFL season, but the scheduling gods may have blessed us with the storyline of two giants on a collision course for Week 17 when they battle for the number one seed in the AFC.

This will be the fifth time Mahomes and Burrow meet, and the rivalry has been one-sided in favor of Burrow. In the last four meetings, the Bengals are 3-1 against Mahomes and the Chiefs, but the most recent victory was in the AFC Championship that sent the Chiefs to win Super Bowl 57 In Phoenix, Arizona.

The games between these two teams have been close, and there has been zero room for error; the last four games have ended with a point difference of only three points! As with game number two, this game could be for all the marbles and determining who will win the number one seed in the highly competitive AFC Conference Playoffs.

The Chiefs will have to be mentally and physically prepared, as they will be playing this game sandwiched between two divisional games that could have implications depending on the level of play of the rest of the AFC West. This game could be the one that propels the Chiefs into the playoffs with the confidence needed to make a deep run, or it could be the loss that frustrates the Chiefs into an early exit in 2023.

Finally, this game is a game to show the Bengals who the King of the AFC is. The AFC Championship game was full of drama, and the Bengals feel as if they were cheated after the Chiefs were allowed to redo a third-down play after it appeared the Bengals got a critical defensive stop.

Week 17 will be how the Chiefs ring in the New Year, and 2024 will start with the Chiefs celebrating another win against the Bengals and preparing to clinch the number one seed in week 18.

This season will be fascinating, full of primetime games and worthy opponents. I could have talked about each game because they will all have their role in how the season plays out, but the five mentioned here will be the ones that make the most significant impact on the Chief’s season.
