Pick Analysis. QB. 46. Florida. Anthony Richardson. 4. player. Scouting Report

The Colts need a quarterback badly. If the season started today, they would look like the Jaguars of old with quarterbacks Nick Foles and Gardner Minshew leading the charge. Foles and Minshew have both proven themselves to be adequate backup options, but neither is even close to being capable of being a full-time starter. The selection of Anthony Richardson would be a gamble to be sure, but it could pay off in a huge way for a Colts team that is in desperate need of an offensive superstar.

Richardson has all of the tools. He has great arm strength, mobility, and accuracy. The problem is and has been his production level at the college level. There were flashes of brilliance and then mind-numbingly bad decisions. If the Colts can get the best out of him, they may be looking at one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL one day. If they can’t, they are looking at an extremely fun player to watch that won’t quite be able to deliver in big games. A risk, but one that the Colts have to take.

36. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Alabama. 5. EDGE. Will Anderson Jr.. player

From Denver Broncos

The Seahawks stole this pick from the Broncos when they shipped Russell Wilson to them in a blockbuster trade a season ago. When the Broncos made the trade, they had no idea that they would be gifting Seattle the sixth overall pick in the draft. For the Seahawks, they have a number of positions to think about, but the best move that they could make would be to draft the best defensive player available. When the Seahawks couldn’t stop the 49ers in the playoffs, it was primarily due to a lack of pass rush and playmaking. Will Anderson Jr. is the best pick to make to alleviate some of the defensive struggles.

Anderson might be the best defensive player in this class. With incredible athleticism and power, he can make plays defending the run and he had great production with his pass rush. The athletic traits that he has would make it easy for Seattle to move him all over the field and use him on a number of different fronts. At fourth overall, this is a slam dunk.

CB. Oregon. 50. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Christian Gonzalez. 6. player

From Los Angeles Rams

The Lions seem like a sleeping giant. With young talent all over the field, they could be destined for greatness. With that in mind, it was obvious that they had a lack of defensive talent last season, especially in the secondary. With the Lions shipping out Jeff Okudah to the Falcons, they truly don’t have much in terms of talent, or at least name recognition, at the cornerback position. At sixth overall, we have them selecting Christian Gonzalez.

Gonzalez does virtually everything well. He has great athleticism and length, but most important of all, he has tremendous instincts. At Oregon, it seemed as though he was always around the football and if he wasn’t, it was because he had his guy locked down. With both a high floor and high ceiling, the Lions would be foolish not to take Gonzalez here especially considering their pass coverage blunders from a season ago.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. CB. Devon Witherspoon. Illinois. 7. player. 28

The Raiders have been notoriously bad in the first round, while we here at Arrowhead Addict would love to see this trend continue, they can’t keep doing this forever. Devon Witherspoon would be the best first-round pick that the Raiders had made since they selected Amari Cooper 4th overall in 2015. Currently, the Raiders have the starting cornerback grouping of Duke Shelley, David Long, and Nate Hobbs. You might be saying “Who?” and that would be an appropriate response.

Devon Witherspoon is not only a great coverage corner, but he is also a culture changer. In the AFC West, when you face both Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert twice a year, you have to have a guy that can make plays in the secondary and lead a defense. Witherspoon is a sure tackler and could play all over the field. This is a no-brainer for Las Vegas.
