Minnesota Vikings (Pick 23)

Why it makes sense for them:

The Vikings, like the Lions, are in a weird spot. They seem dominant at times, but then struggle to get the job done when it matters most. They have talent all over the roster, but it may truly come down to the quarterback. While Kirk Cousins has had some electric performances, he is inconsistent at best. For the Chiefs to move up, the Vikings might ask for draft capital that is in next year’s draft in the hopes of landing a top option next year.

On the flip side, the Vikings could use an influx of youth on the defensive side of the ball. They may want to invest in some options later in the draft at defensive tackle and safety. If they can get more picks in the middle of this draft, it may allow for them to get more long-term options in those categories.

Likelihood of Chiefs trading for this pick: Medium

This is probably the sweet spot for Kansas City. It would be a move that would get them eight spots higher, jumping many of their fellow contenders. Further, this is the part of the draft where a team will look at the draft board and try to potentially make a trade for one of their last remaining “first-round talents.” Similar to when the Chiefs moved up to take Trent McDuffie last draft, this is an ideal spot.
