Quarterbacks

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t have the cap space to spend big on a backup quarterback and, frankly, it wouldn’t be a good use of money even if they did. While Chad Henne provided clutch relief on multiple occasions, this team is built around Patrick Mahomes. They just need a backup quarterback that can steady the ship for a short period, not try to replicate what Mahomes does.

The Big Names: Teddy Bridgewater, Carson Wentz

If KC did want to spend on a backup, these are probably the two biggest names available (depending on if Matt Ryan retires). Again, I can’t see KC ponying up for either of these two, but Bridgewater would be an amazing option if he wanted to take a cheap deal. Wentz could benefit from an Andy Reid makeover and has experience in Reid’s offense after coming up under Doug Pederson, but I still think this is unlikely.

The Familiar Face: Chase Daniel

This one would make more sense. Chase Daniel has made a pretty decent amount of money as a backup quarterback at this point, but if he wants one more chance to be on a Super Bowl team he could sign on for a second stint with Andy Reid and the Chiefs. Daniel would give Mahomes a veteran sounding board in the quarterback room and on the sideline that already knows the system.

The Best Of The Rest

Mason Rudolph, Blaine Gabbert, Trevor Siemian, and Brian Hoyer have all started NFL games and shouldn’t command a high price tag. If the Chiefs don’t feel like Shane Buechele is ready to be the primary backup and feel like one of these options would bring more experience to the room they could be options.

Now let’s move on to the running backs.
