Rooting for Old Friends

With as much talent as the Chiefs have accumulated during the Andy Reid era, it’s inevitable that several former Chiefs will suit up this weekend. Baltimore’s Justin Houston will face off against the Bengals and Miami’s Tyreek Hill will be facing off with the Bills. Both could without question help their former team out more than they’d probably like to admit.

Houston is coming off of a season for Baltimore where he amassed 9.5 sacks. Solid for a veteran in his 12th year in the league, but just a hair short of a major payout. Late in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s de facto AFC North championship showdown between the Bengals and Ravens, Houston got to Bengals QB Joe Burrow for a sack that would have been his 10th on the season, earning him a $1.5 million incentive.

The only problem? Teammate Odafe Oweh got to Burrow late as well, and the solo sack for Houston was re-scored as a split sack with Oweh. Houston can’t get his money back this week in the instant rematch, but he can get his numbers up on a big stage against a Bengals team that will be without La’el Collins and likely Alex Kappa.

Hill has been fantastic for Miami all season but has left a little to be desired in the team’s two matchups with the Bills. In a week 4 victory, Hill did have a touchdown against Buffalo but only gained 69 yards on 9 receptions. In Week 16, Hill was held to just 2 catches and 33 yards in a snow globe game in Orchard Park.

The Dolphins will be without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for this game, but Hill is a universally lethal weapon that Skyler Thompson (who we will get to later) could potentially utilize to orchestrate the downfall of the Bills. And while it may be for the most unfortunate of reasons, the Bills’ secondary is thin after losing both Micah Hyde and Demar Hamlin over the course of the regular season.
