Defensive end Tim Ward

Depth and availability at the defensive end are unending concerns in Kansas City. Bringing back defensive end Tim Ward would provide the Chiefs with a young and cheap option on the edge.

Ward only appeared in one game for the Chiefs, starting in Week 17 of the 2020 season. He started off strong with a sack, five solo tackles, and two quarterback hits. Things were looking up for the former undrafted free agent. However, the Chiefs released Ward ahead of the 2021 season, surprising many who closely follow the team.

Ward went on to play in 11 games for the New York Jets during the 2021 season, providing some depth for New York. However, his best single-game performance remains that lone start in Kansas City. Ward looked pedestrian in New York but was successful in his opportunities with the Chiefs.

This would be an uninspiring pickup, but one that makes sense. Ward is a long and quick defensive end and would fit nicely into defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s NASCAR package if needed. Ward is at least a young player who could provide stability in an aging and volatile defensive end room.
