Concluding thoughts
So where does that leave us for Sunday’s game? Well, if history shows us anything it’s this: Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are the best in the NFL at getting the season kicked off on the right note. A key to the 2018-2020 openers was offensive balance, something that Kansas City will be forced to zero in on with the variety of threats they sport on offense coming into this season.
It’s worth noting that the one opener in the last 4 years where KC has relied mostly on the Hill/Kelce combo was the one contest that they nearly let slip away, last year against Cleveland. With the combination of Juju Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, Skyy Moore, and Justin Watson giving the Cardinals’ banged-up defense a massive test in picking their own poison, it would not be a shock to see a day where Mahomes pitches the ball around the yard to 7-8 different receivers and goes for 300+ and 3+ touchdowns.
Sunday will dictate very little in who the 2022 Chiefs actually end up being. It’s a long season, and as we saw last year even if a team starts out like a lamb, they can end like a lion. Based on what we have seen in the past, who we still have under center, and the man that’s still behind the mustache, we should expect a hot start (and a likely victory) 5 days from now.
We will have in-depth game coverage, news, and updates on the health of both teams here at Arrowhead Addict all week long.
