Jabrill Peppers

One of my favorite potential under-the-radar free agents this cycle is New York Giants safety Jabrill Peppers. By all accounts, the Giants and people around the organization love Peppers and he has been described as the heart and soul of the Giants defense which sounds eerily similar to Tyrann Mathieu.

Peppers also has a similar vibe to him as Mathieu because of his ability to do just about anything. Peppers was one of the most exciting prospects at the time coming out of Michigan because of his ability to play all over the field and really, on both sides of the ball.

Peppers started out his career slow after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns and he was eventually traded to the New York Giants as a part of the blockbuster Odell Beckham Jr. deal. In 3 seasons with New York, Peppers has accumulated 196 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks, 15 tackles for a loss, 17 passes defended, 2 interceptions, and 4 forced fumbles.

Unfortunately, Peppers did not complete his 3rd season with the Giants after suffering an ACL injury in an October game against the Carolina Panthers and a major injury before becoming a free agent is never a good thing. That said, Peppers is a safety who can play in the box and even play some linebacker.

Coming off injury and having a brief injury history, Peppers may not cost all that much and could end up being a fun signing for a team like the Chiefs looking for help at safety. In an ideal world, though, Peppers would be more of a possibility if the first few options at safety don’t pan out for Kansas City.
