KC Chiefs: Three players who can help themselves vs Arizona Cardinals
By Matt Conner
Marcus Kemp
It’s going to be a very, very tough fight for the final wide receiver spots, and given the level of play at tight end between Noah Gray and Jody Fortson, there could be even fewer spots at wideout on the active roster if the team decides to keep four TEs. That means Marcus Kemp could use another stellar effort on Friday night.
Last week, Kemp took full advantage of the few reps he had in the team’s first preseason game in a win over the San Francisco 49ers with tough catches and an overall strong showing. But the Chiefs also saw Daurice Fountain step up and Darrius Shepherd looked solid as well. The team still has plenty of other competitors there including Gehrig Dieter, Dalton Schoen, Maurice Ffrench, and Cornell Powell. (We’re leaving out Demarcus Robinson, Byron Pringle, and Mecole Hardman here because they seem slated for obvious roster spots.)
Kemp is a favorite of Dave Toub, which helps his cause, but if he can also show he’ll be a reliable asset on offense as well, we might be able to pencil in Kemp’s name in 53-man roster predictions. Look for him to have a big game tonight to try to separate himself from the competition.
