Nick Allegretti

One more option is worth mentioning here and it’s the Chiefs final draft pick from their 2019 NFL Draft class.

At the top of the seventh round, the Chiefs used a pick they grabbed from the 49ers to take a tough, intelligent lineman from the University in Illinois in Nick Allegretti. At the time, here’s what Chiefs scout Terry Delp had to say about Allegretti:

"“I don’t usually get excited watching linemen, cause he just gets after people. He will throw people around. He’s got a nasty edge. He’s strong. Really patient under control. Smart player. He’s fun to watch and he’s an offensive lineman.”"

It’s important to remember those quotes are about a seventh round pick, so any enthusiasm should be muted somewhat. However, Allegretti has now been in the Chiefs system for over a year, which means it could be interesting to see what he brings now that he’s much more knowledgeable about Andy Reid‘s offense.

One concern here is that Allegretti has also been mentioned as a potential candidate to compete for reps at center. If that’s where the Chiefs plan to use him, then maybe they would look elsewhere for guard. However, Allegretti is versatile enough to take reps at either interior spot and it makes sense to at least look at Allegretti at left and right guard both to see how he takes to the roles.
