Looking at NFL Draft prospects being mocked to the Kansas City Chiefs

A.J. Terrell – CB – Clemson
Mock Drafts:
The Athletic – Dane Brugler – 3/4/2020
With The First Pick – Nicholas Perlich – 3/19/2020
Bleacher Report – Matt Miller – 3/20/2020 (Twitter Mock)
The Draft Network – Joe Marino – 3/21/2020
A.J. Terrell is a 6-foot-1, 195 pound smooth coverage corner from Clemson. While Terrell does play press man well, it’s less about his physicality at the line and more about his great ability to stick right in the pocket of his man. Terrell had a great combine, running a 4.42 second time in the 40-yard dash and looking as smooth in the field drills as just about any cornerback there. He could stand to bulk up a little to be more physical near the line and in run support, but his coverage skills are top notch.
My Take On This Pick:
This is a pick that I’m getting more and more in favor of as we get closer to the draft. Terrell’s tape and combine performance have secured him as a strong candidate to go in the late first round, and the Chiefs (as I’m writing this) are in desperate need of a starting-caliber cornerback.
In all four of the mocks that had Terrell going to K.C., both Murray and Queen were off the board. Had one of them been available I probably would have preferred to go that route, mainly because I think the drop off at linebacker is greater than the drop off at cornerback in the second round. Still, I would come away a happy fan if the Chiefs called Terrell’s name on draft day.
So there you have it Chiefs fans, seven different prospects that have been mocked to the Chiefs in the last few weeks. I was a fan of some picks and disliked some others. I’m not a fan of drafting a running back in the first round and would much prefer a cornerback or linebacker (although none of the mocks had them taking a linebacker).
What do you think? Do you like any of these picks? Did you agree with my assessments or do you think I’m off base with some of them? Is there a player or position that isn’t getting any talk that you think should be (possibly wide receiver)? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
