1. The New England Patriots

The Scenario for the Patriots to come to Kansas City

Simple. New England just needs to beat the Tennesse Titans and then they will be headed to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in a rematch and Patrick Mahomes vs. Tom Brady part four.

The matchup:

Of the potential matchups, this is the only one that is a true rivalry. Andy Reid is the only coach to have some consistent moderate success against Belichick and company. Further, the Chiefs have faced off against the Patriots 3 times in the last 2 years, this being the potential fourth. Mahomes is the young gun and Tom Brady is the veteran leader that has had incredible playoff success. This could be a “passing of the torch moment.” To add to the suspense and intrigue, the Chiefs got the best of the Patriots at Foxboro earlier this season and in that game Chris Jones and Tom Brady exchanged words.

Last season, the Chiefs had an incredible offense but couldn’t stop Tom Brady from throwing slants to Julian Edelman. Worse, the Chiefs couldn’t stop the Patriots in the run game even when it was brutally clear what was coming. This is a rematch of the AFC Championship game a year ago and you have got to believe that the Chiefs would be eager and hungry for the opportunity to beat the Patriots again.

Needless to say, I believe that this would be by far the most intriguing matchup possible for the Divisional Round. The Chiefs should be able to take on Brady and the Patriots with relative ease. If they could slow Julian Edelman once again and stiffen up in the run game, they should be in great shape to go to the AFC Championship game for the 2nd year in a row. To me, as crazy as it sounds, the Texans are a tougher matchup than New England.

The Likelihood New England comes to Kansas City: Most Likely

Of the matchups, this is not only the most intriguing. It is also the most likely. While the Patriots have been pretty shaky all season, it seems likely that they can get their act together enough to defeat the Titans at home, no matter how good Tennessee has been of late.
