D’Andre Swift, Georgia, running back

They say (Alex Barnett):

"This guy can do everything, run, catch, and block. The Chiefs are still trying to find a three down back and Swift is the bell cow for the job."

We say:

The idea of returning a top-flight, do-it-all running back to the offensive backfield sounds like a wonderful proposition given how much we miss the on-field talents of Kareem Hunt. That said, the excitement of such an addition is likely cancelled out by using the team’s only first round pick in three years on a running back.

If this was a second round choice, this would be all cheers from us. Instead, there are key issues among linebackers, offensive line, cornerback or even a chance to grab a long-term impact talent to develop at more expensive and difficult positions to fill before landing the team’s next star running back.

However if Swift was the pick at the post, it would at the very least make for a very exciting offense that is likely to lose a bit of its firepower at wide receiver. If the Chiefs let Demarcus Robinson go or decide to move on from Sammy Watkins cap impact, the addition of further offensive help elsewhere would be a nice balance heading into the 2020 season.

Swift would certainly provide that boost. Swift has averaged 6.2 yards/carry as the Georgia Bulldogs primary back and he’s done so against college football’s finest. He has 1,203 yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground this season along with 21 receptions for 198 yards.
