Elijah Holyfield, Carolina Panthers

The first running back that Kansas City should consider bringing in is rookie running back Elijah Holyfield, who is currently on the Carolina Panthers practice squad. The undrafted rookie played his college ball at Georgia, where he had 215 career carries and 1,340 yards, good for a 6.2 yards per carry average.

After going undrafted, Holyfield signed with the Panthers immediately and last through the preseason. However, Holyfield did not make the final 53-man roster and Carolina crossed their fingers that he’d make it back to their practice squad. He did, and the Panthers are happy to have him on the team in that capacity.

But now Kansas City should make a move for the son of former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield. Elijah is a little small, but he has ample power to excel in the Chiefs backfield (especially given that Darrell Williams is likely to take most of the downfield rushing attempts). What’s more, Williams has quality hands to be a strong receiver out of the backfield, despite not being asked to do much of that in college (due to Georgia’s running scheme). Out of college, his scouting report said that: “Elijah Holyfield is a rocked-up, high-energy tailback … powerful rusher that punishes upon impact.”
