No More Dirty Dan

The Chiefs will likely move on from safety Dan Sorenson this offseason. Let’s have a moment of silence for the legend.

Okay, enough of that.

Sorenson has been a liability in the secondary but has continued to see lots of action as the third safety. Sorenson primarily played a hybrid linebacker-safety role in the nickel but has struggled in coverage.

Marcelino Ball is a bigger safety who is flying a bit under the draft radar. While he has some growing to do as a coverage player, he is a solid tackler and has a great motor. Ball is the type of player that could learn under Tyrann Mathieu and provide some splash plays while he develops. Most importantly, Ball could be a player available in the middle rounds and provide great value for a Kansas City defense littered with holes.
