Mason Foster

The first player on our list is eight year NFL veteran Mason Foster. Foster spent last season with Washington, where he recorded 131 tackles while starting all 16 games.

Originally a third round pick by the Buccaneers in the 2011 NFL Draft, Foster played in Tampa Bay for four years before spending the last four years in Washington. He has a ton of experience playing mostly as a run-stuffer, and rhe ecorded the best season of his career in 2018. It was only the second time in his career that he’s started all 16 games.

It was a shocking turns of events when Washington cut Foster just days before training camp. After posting 131 tackles as a three-year starter for the team, it seemed a lock that he’d return

After being cut, Foster’s agent ripped the organization for their decision:

"“If you ever want to doubt that there is zero good faith in the [NFL] business look no further then the [Redskins] cutting Mason Foster today,” Baratz wrote, “the day he was heading to report for camp. 9 year veteran, captain of the defense, played 99% of the snaps last season and cannot even get a straight answer as to why. Keep in mind the team has been off for 5 weeks [and] he was the starting MLB the entire offseason. I operate in good faith as a human being [and] as a business, I expect more from the [NFL] and certain organizations in particular, we can be better.”"

Foster is 30 and has been in the league a long time. No doubt, he’d struggle to play a full season anywhere without wearing down at least a little bit. But in Kansas City, it’s likely that he’d only be asked to play on obvious run downs, and he’s already saved his body a bit by missing five games of the season.

Foster is likely better than Ragland or O’Daniel against the run and, as such, the Chiefs should give him a look.
