My Prediction: Chiefs 31, Texans 28

In my personal opinion, this clash between two of the better teams in the AFC will come down to the Chiefs coaching staff. Andy Reid, Eric Bieniemy and Steve Spagnuolo are at the helm of the most talented team any of them have coached in their careers. They’re a little worse for the wear, but they have the best quarterback in the NFL and he’s throwing to the best group of skill players in the NFL.

The Chiefs players didn’t execute exceptionally well on Sunday, but it was glaringly obvious on both sides of the ball that the coaches themselves were to blame. It became crystal clear early that the Colts were going to run the ball, yet Spagnuolo seemed completely unable to dial up a scheme to stop them.

It seemed painfully apparent that the offensive line wasn’t going to be able to control the line of scrimmage against the pass rush of the Colts, yet Reid and Bieniemy had no answer and let the future of the franchise get hit over and over and over again.

The truth is, above everything else, the coaches had a bad game. It happens, especially at the highest level. Think of how many times in the past 20 years the Patriots have gotten schellacked by some team in the regular season, and the conversation for the next week is whether or not the Tom Brady and the Patriots dynasty are done. This was one of those moments for a Chiefs team that is the best team in the NFL.

What Sunday will show us is whether or not this team, which as I said is the best in the NFL based off of their talent, has a mentality to match that. If they come out prepared and sharp, even if they lose a close game, i’m not concerned. If they come out like they did against the Raiders, Lions, and the Colts, then I might start worrying about this particular season.

In the end I think the first scenario will happen and the Chiefs will win a tough game against a Super Bowl contender and prove something to the fans and themselves. Not only do they have what it takes to win a Super Bowl physically but they could be ready mentally and emotionally as well.
