The Chiefs need Chris Jones and other lessons learned from Week 4

The Chiefs need Chris Jones
Chris Jones made a statement on Sunday: 2 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss, a fumble recovery, and countless other pressures and play breakups. It was a statement to every team left on the Chiefs’ schedule, to every analyst and writer who doubted him, and to every fan tweeting at him to step up his game.
Following a standout 2018 season in which Jones registered15.5 sacks and made a decent case for NFL Defensive Player of the Year, many expected big things from Jones in 2019. While he has played well through three games, he failed to look dominant as fans and analyst wanted him to be.
This Sunday was a true return to form for Jones as he tore up the middle of the Lion’s offensive line. His consistent, disruptive play even caused players to jump early to try and get a block on him, causing a false start on a key fourth-and-1 early in the game.
If Jones can keep causing this much damage up front, Kansas City’s defense has a real chance to turn the corner as a unit. For a good example of this, check last week and how Emmanuel Ogbah gave the secondary a fighting chance against Lamar Jackson. With games against veteran quarterbacks like Phillip Rivers, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers, Jones’ presence will help this secondary perform as needed for the Chiefs to win.
