CBS Sports – Essang Bassey, CB, Wake Forest

Yes, another mock from CBS, but in this world, Chris Trapasso gets things right. Bassey is a bit smaller at 5’10, 190 lbs., but fans in general would applaud a first round corner addition (assuming the talent level validates the choice). The downside is that he profiles more as a slot corner than anything else.

Bassey would enter the NFL with three years of starting experience in the ACC, and he’s shown the ability to make plenty of plays on the ball with 31 batted passes and 4 interceptions in the last two years. Trapasso writes:

"Kansas City’s secondary needs major work. Bassey is always around the football thanks to twitchiness, awareness, and ball skills."

If the Chiefs were, for some reason, going to let Kendall Fuller walk, Bassey could be an immediate replacement. Then again, that only creates another hole to fill versus actually begin to build a new core of corners for the long-term.
