Film Room Addict: How the Chiefs can take down the Baltimore Ravens
By Grant Tuttle
Remind Lamar Jackson that he is in the NFL now
The Ravens love to throw in designed runs and some college-like formations. For example, you will see them go to a wishbone set and then spread everyone out. The point being, the Ravens are trying to make Jackson feel as though he is a Heisman caliber player at Louisville. It is important that the Chiefs let him know that they will not allow him to go off for 400 all-purpose yards.
Here we see a designed quarterback draw. This play came after Jackson threw the ball to players downfield prompting linebackers to back off in case of another attempt in the passing game. Jackson gets the call and shows off some of his electricity making a few defenders miss. The play appears to be designed to go straight upfield or to the right judging by the direction of the guard. Nonetheless, Jackson comes away with a really nice run.
Look for tight ends against man coverage, especially Travis Kelce
Brandon Carr and Earl Thomas have looked very good in coverage. After that, it has been complicated for the Ravens. Particularly from anyone covering tight ends. Throughout the first two weeks, tight ends have been open. I would bet that the Ravens change things up against the Chiefs, but if they don’t, Kansas City should be going to a tight end early and often.
Here we watch Mike Gesicki get open quickly against Kenny Young. In fact, if Fitzpatrick gets the ball out quicker, it may have been a 20 yard gain. If this is the Ravens’ plan for how to handle Mahomes and Kelce, they will get shredded.
