Fit in the Chiefs’ future

As mentioned already, the Chiefs are in need of cornerbacks for the long haul. On defense, the Chiefs have some leaders signed for the long-term. The addition of Jalen Ramsey would add to the incredible young talent added to the team this offseason.

A defense led by Jalen Ramsey, Frank Clark, and Tyrann Mathieu is an extremely talented group. While Clark and Mathieu have had a slow start, they need time to grow comfortable in their roles. Ramsey added to the mix would solidify the defensive talent for years to come. With Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill on offense, the combination of the three on defense could set up a genuine dynasty in Kansas City.

Physicality and toughness

The Chiefs may have found their emotional leader on the defense in Tyrann Mathieu, but they still could use some physicality among the corners. Jalen Ramsey provides that in more than one way. While many know him to be a trash-talking cover corner, Ramsey is also an excellent tackler and proponent against the run.

For Steve Spagnuolo, the defense is all about tackling. Ramsey rarely misses a tackle on a receiver and is a genuinely good run defender. This would prove to be very valuable in the Chiefs defensive scheme. According to PFF, Ramsey has earned good grades every season against the run. Kansas City is a fit for Ramsey and he is a fit for Kansas City

An AFC arms race

The New England Patriots did what they have done to stay relevant for years, again. After Josh Gordon was reinstated before the season, the Patriots signed All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown. It appears that New England will be in the running for the AFC Championship once again. If the Chiefs are going to stay in the running, they will need to make a countermove.

If Jalen Ramsey is brought in to Kansas City, they will be able to keep up better than they could at the present moment. Charvarius Ward, Kendall Fuller, Morris Claiborne, and Bashaud Breeland are no match for those receivers. Adding Ramsey would at least stop the bleeding enough to get the offense back on to the field.
