AFC West tight end rankings: Henry, Fant compete with Kelce
By Grant Tuttle
3. The Denver Broncos
Projected tight ends: Jeff Heuerman, Noah Fant, Jake Butt
The Broncos are an interesting team to watch. They have a couple of guys at tight end that could surprise. Jeff Heuerman was an interesting piece to the offense last season and it appears as though the team still likes him, despite drafting Noah Fant in the first round in this year’s draft.
Fant brings incredible athleticism to the tight end group and was among my favorite players in the draft. He plays like an oversized receiver. For the Broncos, a guy who can make big catches in the middle of the field will have a huge role in an offense run by Joe Flacco. Noah Fant could surprise a lot of people this season.
Jake Butt is a guy that Denver likes. Unfortunately for him, he has struggled to stay healthy and will even start this season on IR. That being said, even if Butt is not the guy, the Broncos have a couple of other young guys that they like at tight end number three.
Projections:
Jeff Heuerman: 28 receptions, 256 receiving yards, 2 Touchdowns
Noah Fant: 41 receptions, 399 receiving yards, 4 Touchdowns
Jake Butt: 3 receptions, 27 receiving yards, 0 Touchdowns
4. The Oakland Raiders
Projected tight ends: Darren Waller and Foster Moreau
The Raiders enter 2019 making it no secret that they are hoping that Darren Waller and Foster Moreau can surprise. The team let Jared Cook walk despite a stellar performance last season and did not replace him with a viable option.
While both Waller and Moreau have shown signs of great growth and overall ability, they have a long way to go in proving that they deserve to be tight ends in the NFL.
Projections:
Darren Waller: 25 receptions, 253 receiving yards, 2 Touchdowns
Foster Moreau: 27 receptions, 262 receiving yards 2 Touchdowns
