Kansas City Chiefs should consider these NFL Combine standouts on offense
Tight Ends
Kahale Warring, San Diego State
- 6-foot-5, 252 pounds
- 40 Yard Dash – 4.67 (6th)
- Bench Press – 19 reps (tied for 7th)
- Vertical – 36.5 inches (tied for 3rd)
- Broad Jump – 122.0 inches (3rd)
- 3 Cone Drill – 7.21 seconds (tied for 11th)
- 20 Yard Shuttle – 4.25 seconds (4th)
- 60 Yard Shuttle – 11.72 seconds (3rd)
There may not be a prospect I came out of the combine with a bigger draft crush on than San Diego State’s Kahale Warring. Yes, he had an excellent combine where he was near the top of the leaderboard in most of the categories, but that wasn’t really what caught my attention.
First off, Warring just looks like a dominant NFL player. I mean, look at the picture at the top of this page. He just looks bigger and stronger than other players with similar measurements. Then I put on the tape of his game against Nevada from last season and I was sold. I really recommend giving it a watch.
Warring is a former multi-sport high school athlete (including water polo) who only played one year of high school football and has a ton of upside. He’s already a strong blocker and he moves really well and does a nice job of catching the ball away from his body with his hands.
I think with good coaching Warring could end up being nearly as productive in the NFL as some of the big names that will likely be drafted a round or two before him at the position. I would love to see the Chiefs draft this guy and pair him with Travis Kelce for the next several years.
Foster Moreau, LSU
- 6-foot-4, 253 pounds
- 40 Yard Dash – 4.66 (5th)
- Bench Press – 22 reps (tied for 2nd)
- Vertical – 36.5 inches (tied for 3rd)
- Broad Jump – 121.0 inches (4th)
- 3 Cone Drill – 7.16 seconds (7th)
- 20 Yard Shuttle – 4.11 seconds (1st)
- 60 Yard Shuttle – 11.81 seconds (4th)
At the end of his college career, Foster Moreau of LSU was basically seen as a blocking tight end. After all, he only totaled 52 receptions over three years of playing time. Then Moreau showed up at the combine and put on a show. He ran well, jumped well, and showed good strength and agility.
The question now becomes whether he was underutilized at LSU because they had so many good athletes or is Moreau simply unable to utilize that athleticism in the passing game? Normally, the answer would be to go to the tape but since LSU didn’t really feature him as a pass catcher there isn’t a lot to see there.
Teams will need to work Moreau out for themselves to see what they think. The Chiefs could use a good blocking tight end on the roster anyway so if the coaching staff thinks they can turn that athleticism into a pass catching weapon too then he would certainly be worth a mid-round pick.
So there you have it Chiefs fans. My list of combine standouts that the Chiefs should consider on offense in the coming draft. What do you think? Do you agree with this list? Are there any of these players you’d especially like to see end up in Kansas City? Were there other players that you feel were more deserving to make the list? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
