Dante Fowler Jr. OLB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Why it makes sense

There is always a name or two that are surprise trade candidates at the deadline, and Fowler may be one of them. Despite his high draft status and natural athletic ability, Fowler has primarily been a role player for Jacksonville. The Jaguars are a struggling team looking at an uncertain future, and Fowler may be available. With Justin Houston oft-injured and Dee Ford on an expiring contract, Fowler may be an ideal addition to help ensure the Chiefs have the ability to get to the quarterback.

What might stop the deal

There is little indication that Fowler may actually be available. The Jaguars are struggling and may not want to give up on the young pass rusher just yet. Additionally, the Chiefs may decide to stick with the guys they know in Houston and Ford than gamble on an unknown fit in Fowler.

Cost and Probability

Fowler has not produced like you would expect a 3rd overall pick to produce, but he is still only 24 years old. I can’t imagine the Jaguars would let him go for less than a 4th round pick, but I think he likely goes for a 3rd or possibly a 2nd. I think Fowler would be a good fit in the Chiefs defense but may not be the highest need in Veach’s mind. I would give this a 2 out of 10 in terms of probability.
