Offensive MVP: Tyreek Hill

This player was, without contest, a star for the Kansas City Chiefs’ electric offense. After tallying 113 receiving yards on 4 receptions, a touchdown reception, and a 91-yard punt return for a touchdown in just the first half, it was all up from there for Tyreek Hill—an outstanding performance by the Chiefs’ star wide receiver and return specialist. This decision was rather unanimous as he was just magnificent.

Hill is just the third player in NFL history to have a return touchdown of 90+ yards and a touchdown reception of 50+ yards in the same game. Simply put, Hill deserves Chiefs MVP honors for Week 1. He is a matchup nightmare for any defensive back, his exhilarating speed being second to none.

RUNNER-UP: Patrick Mahomes (15-27, 256 yards, 4 TD; 5 carries, 21 rushing yards)

Defensive MVP: Ron Parker

After being released by the Chiefs, Ron Parker was signed by the team in the final week of the preseason, ahead of the final roster cuts. After his standout performance in Week 1, this decision was an easy one to make.

Parker tallied 8 tackles and one interception against the Chargers. After getting burnt for a would-be huge reception that was dropped in the first half, Parker decided that he was going to redeem himself and did just that. Parker stepped up in the second half and was able to pick Rivers off on a great diving catch. Parker almost caught his second interception late in the fourth quarter but was unable to come down with the ball. Still, though, a fantastic effort by the veteran safety made this decision almost an easy one.
