Weaknesses

Speed

I was hesitant to even list this as a weakness because straight line speed is not a huge concern for edge players. That said, Ferrell looks relatively average on film. He could come out and test really well at the Combine, but there are a handful of examples of elusive quarterbacks simply out racing him around the edge.

Strength

Ferrell flashes strength in his bull rush moves, but it is not always there. He has a tendency to struggle against bigger lineman in this area. By no means is Ferrell weak, but he will have to improve his functional strength at the next level. I would consider this the most average trait that I saw on film.

Pad Level

This is thrown around too generically in most cases, but Ferrell really could stand to get his shoulder pads a bit lower. This would also improve his functional strength issue. Of course, getting lower than the other guy can be difficult when you’re 6 foot 5 inches. This shows the most when Ferrell is coming around the edge after a rip, his ability to square and turn up field toward the quarterback (the “dip) is very average, potentially even below average. This is a coach-able issue and there are times when Ferrell gets it right and this is not an issue.
