The Kansas City Chiefs have added offensive lineman Ike Boettger who was recently released by the Buffalo Bills at roster cuts.

The Kansas City Chiefs have added some unexpected competition to the offensive line with the addition of Ike Boettger off of waivers from the Buffalo Bills, per Matt Derrick.

Boettger has the large stature at 6’6, 313 lbs. but went undrafted in this year’s NFL Draft, and signed with the Bills with a standard priority free agent deal after the weekend. Boettger comes from Iowa, which has developed its fair share of solid offensive linemen over the years.

The file on Boettger has to go back to 2016 and earlier because he missed most of his senior season at Iowa due to an Achilles injury. It was poor timing for the young prospect because he was the team’s starting right tackle and instead of building his draft stock, he dropped off the radar for most teams at the worst possible time.

The Bills took a close look at Boettger and still decided to let him go, but coming off of injury, it’s possible they were trying to slip him onto the 53-man roster. For the Bills, he’s handled some guard duty, which he also showed off in college, so he’s potentially versatile enough to help in a couple spots for the Chiefs.

All that said, the Chiefs now have a vision for Boettger that remains to be seen. He must remain on the active roster at this point, which likely sends someone like Jordan Devey or Andrew Wylie or Bryan Witzmann elsewhere. It’s hard to know who is out or how many the team will keep along the o-line but it definitely complicates the picture. Further roster moves to come.
