Kansas City Chiefs: 7 players who could make the Pro Bowl for the first time
By Matt Conner
Sammy Watkins
This is the biggest stretch on this list, so know that we’re already well aware of this. But it’s important to note that a player who is paid like one of the best wide receivers in the league, who was also drafted to be one of the best wide receivers in the league, is finally in a place where he could actually live up those expectations.
Sammy Watkins has the potential to be as good as he wants, with a rare set of physical size, speed and skills that could elevate him above most of his peers in football. Unfortunately he’s played with bad quarterbacks, rotating offensive game plans and dealt with injuries. But so far in K.C., he’s doing the hard work to make sure he’s an impact receiver from day one.
Now we will admit this is still far-fetched simply because there are only so many targets to go around on this offense. But Watkins is gifted enough to be a Pro Bowler and perhaps this is the year that he makes that leap. If he develops strong chemistry with Patrick Mahomes, it’s certainly possible.
And if Watkins makes the Pro Bowl, you know the Chiefs will have enjoyed a tremendous year on offense.
