Ben Niemann, LB, Iowa

I like this kid. He plays with great instincts and I believe he should have been drafted. I had him as a potential 6th-7th round pick. Kansas City would be wise to consider keeping him around to be a developmental and special teams player. He plays with passion and has proven that he wants to get better every day.

Niemann looks decently fast from sideline to sideline and shows good ability in sealing edges against the run. However, he is not what I would call a “powerful” player. If a good blocker gets to him, he is not going to run through him. However, he has some agility and can be a play-maker.

Chance of making the roster: Fair

I really think he could step in and be an immediate help on special teams. The way that he played at Iowa looked like a special teams player. With some NFL development, who knows? Maybe this guy becomes a depth middle linebacker for the Chiefs.

Bentley Spain, OL, North Carolina

Spain looks big and plays like a rock. I mean this literally. He is difficult to move, yet does not move. Bentley Spain is not quick at all. While I love his strength, he does not showcase great footwork, speed, or agility.

Chance of making the roster: Poor

Spain played against top tier talent in college which means he may have a little bit of an upper-hand on some of the undrafted linemen. However, he just doesn’t show much athleticism. I like him as another guy to develop. Practice squad material.
