Michael Vick – 2010 season – Philadelphia Eagles

While Michael Vick was in his second stint in the NFL when he joined the Eagles in 2009, his future was very much a question mark. He took over the role as the primary starter in his second season with the team so that makes for a nicer comparison to Patrick Mahomes who will do the same this coming season. However, due to injury Vick only started 12 games that year. To get a better idea of what a full season at his production would look like I extrapolated his numbers from 2010 over 16 games and came up with:

311 of 496 (62.6%)
4,024 yards (8.1 YPA)
28 touchdowns
8 interceptions
100.2 quarterback rating

Listen, if Patrick Mahomes put up those numbers in his first ever season as a NFL starter Chiefs fans will be on cloud nine. I think these numbers are again a little unrealistic. However, I think that if you took those same numbers but increased the interceptions up to the low “teens” you might be looking at a best case scenario for Mahomes in 2018. I’m not saying KC fans should expect that, but I think that’s about as good as even the most optimistic Chiefs fans could hope for.

Let’s look at a young quarterback in the AFC West next.
