Delvin Breaux, Cornerback

Delvin Breaux is one of the more interesting stories in the NFL right now. Unlike most players who would normally go to college and then either to the CFL or NFL Breaux’s road was different.  Breaux’s first road block to his dream of playing in the NFL happened in high school. During a routine kick return Breaux was hit and ended up fracturing his C4, C5, and C6 vertebrae. Breaux had already received a scholarship to the LSU Tigers earlier in the year. The Tigers decided to honored it even with his injury. He was never cleared to play during his time with the Tigers. Instead he spent his time being a player coach until he stopped attending LSU.

Breaux finally got to play again when he joined the Gridiron Developmental Football League and started playing for the Louisiana Bayou Vipers where he earned All Star honors. He then jumped to the Arena Football League playing for the New Orleans VooDoo and the Tampa Bay Storm. Breaux then made the next jump to the CFL where he played with the Hamilton Tiger Cats for two seasons. once again earning All Star honors for his play.

Finally, in 2015 Breaux had made it. He was released from the Tiger Cats so that he could sign with his home town team the New Orleans Saints. In his first year he was voted to be the Saints recipient for the Ed Block Courage award, and was also voted as the team’s defensive MVP by the fans.

Unfortunately for Breaux he sustained a broken fibula in his first game of the 2016 season. This caused him to miss the first six games of that season. He returned for a short time before being side lined again due to a shoulder injury. The Saints responded by shutting him down for the season by placing him on injured reserve. Breaux suffered another fractured fibula during training camp of last season which ended up making him miss the entire year.

Even though Breaux has had a string of injury issues over the past two years he is only 28 and could still produce at a high level for the Chiefs. He could also possibly be signed to a one year deal similar to David Amerson. Breaux would be a great buy low target for the Chiefs to try and help bolster the secondary now that the draft is over.
