Kansas City Chiefs: 5 trade targets to chase after the NFL Draft
By Thomas Welte
Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers double dipped at corner during the draft, snagging Carlton Davis (who was often connected to the Chiefs in mock drafts) and MC Stewart. Hargreaves was the 11th overall pick in 2016, but he has yet to live up to that pre-draft billing. Additionally, Hargreaves has had some off the field issues.
After a promising rookie season, the former first round pick experienced a drop off in play last year. It also doesn’t help that after an inconsistent half-season, Hargreaves suffered a hamstring injury that rendered him inactive for several games before being placed on injured reserve. Then just over a month ago, a video that alleged shows Hargreaves smoking an unknown substance appeared on an unofficial social media account—all of which is now deleted.
That said, the talent is there and would provide much-needed competition at cornerback for the Chiefs. The price would have to be right as there is some risk in acquiring Hargreaves. Another name to watch is Minnesota’s Mackensie Alexander, who may lose his spot to rookie cornerback Mike Hughes.
