Vs. San Francisco 49ers

The last two times the San Francisco 49ers visited Arrowhead Stadium, Alex Smith was the quarterback for the 49ers. Barring injury, it will be Jimmy Garoppolo visiting Arrowhead as the 49ers quarterback after he signed a five-year deal to stay in San Francisco and be the franchise quarterback.

After joining the 49ers via trade in 2017, Garoppolo started the final five games of the season, leading the 49ers to a strong finish.

Garoppolo and Mahomes are two quarterbacks who will enter this regular season as the new primary quarterbacks for both teams. Both offenses could put on a show for a nation-wide audience on primetime.

While the NFL attempts to put the best possible games with the biggest storylines, divisional games and some conference rivalries make the most sense. Occasionally, you will see two teams from opposite conferences play on primetime, such as Kansas City and Washington last year on Monday Night Football. Perhaps the Chiefs and 49ers could be one of those odd primetime matchups this season.
