How the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes affects the AFC West

New York Jets
The Jets may have the cap space to bring in a big fish like Cousins. However for a quarterback, the Jets may not be the most favorable destination.
While Cousins would help them forget that their best QBs this year were Josh McCown and Bryce Petty, the Jets have many other issues that need to be addressed before getting a big time quarterback like Cousins to come their way. One of those issues would be the—(Let’s whisper so Cousins doesn’t hear)—offensive line.
According to PFF, they are the 30th ranked unit in the league and allowed 25 sacks on the year, which ranks as sixth worst in the league. That doesn’t sound too appealing to me, let alone a potential franchise QB candidate.
New York fans also might want to pray that they can use the draft and free agency to address the defensive side of the ball. Don’t get me wrong, the secondary is coming together. With solid young players like Jamal Adams, who has proved himself as a rookie with strong aggressive play in coverage, Marcus May, another rookie who proved to be a huge playmaker this past season, and veterans like Morris Claiborne and Buster Skrine. Other stars like Leonard Williams had down years and raised question marks for the team.
While the defense has upside and the Jets have all the money in the world, I do not think Cousins will want to play in New York.
