Rashaan Melvin – Indianapolis Colts

While the other cornerbacks on this list aren’t undersized, none of them fit the mold of the prototypical Chiefs cornerback quite like Rashaan Melvin from the Colts. Melvin has the height and length that the Chiefs have shown to covet. He’s listed as 6-foot-2 and has long arms and great athleticism (he ran a 4.42 forty and had a 38 inch vertical before the draft). He’s 28, so not quite as young as the other guys on this list but still young enough that the next few years should still be considered “his prime”.

Melvin was great last season for the Colts. The only concern is that it was a break out year for him so could he possibly be a one year wonder? Melvin has bounced around during his five years in the NFL, spending time with Tampa Bay, Baltimore, New England, and most recently Indianapolis. If the Chiefs are worried that he’s too big of a risk then they may look elsewhere, but if they believe in him he could be exactly what Brett Veach is looking for. Melvin was Pro Football Focus’ number 17 rated corner in 2017 and if you were paying attention to the tweet about their playmaker index you would have seen Melvin prominently featured in it.

Melvin played well enough for the Colts last season that he won’t fly completely under the radar, but of the players listed in this post I think he’ll be the least expensive. If the Chiefs can land a 28 year old corner with the size, athleticism, and coverage skills they are looking for he may be too tempting to pass up. Again, he’s no Marcus Peters, but none of these guys are.

So what do you think Chiefs fans? Do you think the Chiefs will go out and spend on another cornerback this offseason after dealing Marcus Peters away? If so, do you think they’ll spend enough to get a guy like Kyle Fuller or do you think someone like Rashaan Melvin is more likely? Are there other free agent corners you like more for the Chiefs? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!
