KANSAS CITY, MO - DECEMBER 16: Cornerback Marcus Peters

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly set to trade Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams in a surprise move after weeks of speculation on both sides.

They say where there’s smoke there’s fire, and apparently there was actually some legitimacy to the fact that Marcus Peters had in fact worn out his welcome with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite his talent, his contract, his production and several other factors, the Chiefs have reportedly decided to deal him to the Los Angeles Rams.

Adam Schefter has word of something official in the works with more details to come:

Some reporters were saying that Peters was likely on the move, including CBS Sports Jason La Canfora, but just as many were quick to denounce it, blaming it on slow news cycles of early February.

Looking back, behind the scenes it is now clear that the Chiefs were pulling several moves to make sure they could handle dealing Peters. General manager Brett Veach recently signed former Oakland Raiders cornerback David Amerson to a one-year deal and also made sure the Washington Redskins included up-and-coming star Kendall Fuller in the Alex Smith trade.

Next: Freeing Justin Houston is the Chiefs most important task

The Rams are facing some significant losses in the secondary of their own including Trumaine Johnson, Cody Davis, Lamarcus Joyner, and Nickell Robey-Coleman. The addition of Peters to the secondary might mean that they won’t use the franchise tag on Johnson, perhaps even making him a target of the Chiefs in free agency.
