We took a deeper look at the Chiefs game from Sunday to look at what they did well and where they need to improve.

A little bit of a surprise for Chiefs fans on Tuesday afternoon when the team announced that kicker Cairo Santos had been placed on Injured Reserve. Santos had been battling a groin injury in the preseason but was thought to be fine. He re-aggravated that injury on Sunday when he was hit trying to make a 51 yard field goal. That penalty cost the Chargers as the Chiefs received a first down and Santos was able to connect on a 34 yard try a couple of plays later.

Harrison Butker, from Georgia Tech, was drafted in the seventh round of the 2017 draft by the Carolina Panthers. Butker made the Panthers 53 man roster but was released after the first game as they were not able to trade him. He was then resigned to the Panthers practice squad until the Chiefs signed him on Tuesday. Butker has a strong leg and made both of his attempts in the preseason. Santos could return late in the year but it’s hard to see that happening with Steven Nelson already being expected to return.

Kansas City still has another day off today. We should find out more about the other injuries sustained against the Chargers on Thursday. Dee Ford and De’Anthony Thomas are still question marks headed into the Chiefs second national game. K.C better bring their A-game on Monday against Washington who really took it to the high flying Raiders. The Chiefs offense needs to start fast. The defense needs to pressure Kirk Cousins consistently as well. If they can do both of those things they will start the season 4-0.
