What NFL’s Next Gen Stats say about the Chiefs
Ball Carriers
Next Gen Stats has the first category under Ball Carriers as Fastest Ball Carriers. The measurement here is how fast in MPH a player achieves when carrying the ball. This can come on catching a pass, taking a handoff, or a special teams play. On this list, our very own Tyreek Hill takes the number 1 and 2 spots. The first on the list was in week 2, when Nick Novak kicked the ball and Hill blasted his way across the whole field at a blazing 23.24 MPH! Unfortunately, the score was nullified by a penalty on KC, but that is crazy fast.
The second of Tyreek Hill’s mentions happened in week 12. Hill fielded the kick and reached an incredible 22.77 MPH for a touchdown. Hill has a third spot on this list. This play came on a pass from Nick Foles to Hill, who practically teleported to the end zone at a stunning 21.91 MPH.
This just serves to reinforce what is the strongest part about Tyreek Hill: His blinding speed. When he touches the ball, he is gone. Seeming to just teleport away he gets separation so fast. I am glad he is on this team!
Longest Plays
The next category is Longest Plays. This captures the farthest distances that players travelled, regardless of how many yards were actually gained. There are quite a few Chiefs on this list so let’s power through them real quick. I put them in list form for ease of reading.
No. 2: Tyreek Hill with a 139.37 yard kick return
No. 3: Daniel Sorenson recovers a fumble and takes it 136.28 yards
No. 4: Hill shows up with a 135.53 yard long punt return
No. 6: Hill again with 126.90 yards on a punt return
No. 10: Yet again, Tyreek Hill with a 122.24 yard kick return
No. 17: Getting the trend yet? Tyreek Hill dashes 113.87 yards on a punt return
That was quite a bit wasn’t it? Has it become apparent yet? Tyreek Hill is FAST and he has a pension for big plays that span the whole field. Keep in mind the stat with Alex Smith’s release time. Just imagine that fast of a release into Hill’s hands, he gets separation before the defender blinks and the game breaks wide open.
For years I have looked at replays of other teams’ WRs busting open big plays and long kick returns and longed for such a player in Kansas City. Well, dream come true! Tyreek Hill is that guy. I am thrilled to have him suit up in the red and gold.
