Adam Shaheen – TE – Ashland – 6’6″ – 278 pounds

This year’s tight end class may be one of the most athletic in recent years. Multiple prospects blew up the drills with their speed and athleticism. Players like Alabama’s O.J. Howard and Mississippi’s Evan Engram in particular showed explosive big play speed and athleticism. These players dominated the coverage and media attention (and rightfully so) but there is a small school prospect that in some ways is equally impressive and may be exactly what the KC offense needs.

Adam Shaheen may be from tiny Ashland University but he is anything but tiny. At 6-foot-6 and 278 pounds Shaheen is a massive tight end prospect. That’s what makes his 4.79 40 time so impressive. He backed up his 40 time with a solid 7.09 three cone drill. Again, those aren’t elite times for a tight end but for anyone 278 pounds that is impressive.

The Chiefs need a good second tight end to pair with Travis Kelce. Shaheen has the size to be a huge match-up problem for defenders with enough athleticism to be an actual weapon in the passing game. Over his final two seasons in college he totaled 127 receptions, 1,670 yards and 26 touchdowns. So this guy isn’t just some big bodied blocking tight end. He obviously has the size and strength (24 bench press reps) to be a major force in the run blocking game, but when he also has to be accounted for in the passing game that creates more match up problems for defenses that will already stressing on how to stop one of the league’s best tight ends in Kelce.

I love Shaheen and wouldn’t be upset at all if the Chiefs drafted him as high as the second round. I think he could help the Chiefs offense in both the passing and rushing attack (especially in the red zone). I happen to think that KC needs a second tight end like Shaheen more than they need another wide receiver. While I loved his size I think the athleticism he showed at the combine makes him that much more tempting.

Finally, a look at a defender that looks like a perfect fit for KC.
