Why is the Kansas City Chiefs offense so awful?

Andy Reid has to convince this team to take on the personality and identity of a running team. They need to have the mindset that they are going to run the ball no matter what. It doesn’t matter if the other team knows they are running. They are going to control that line of scrimmage and put their offense in third and short so they can improve their efficiency. When they are down around the goal line the offensive line is going to have to man up and power that ball into the end zone. Spencer Ware is a good short yardage runner. So get physical and run the ball.

That is the only way this offense is going to be good enough to compliment their talented defense (assuming the defense can get healthy). They have to establish that mindset and Andy Reid is the only one that can make that happen. He’ll still have silly gadget plays. He’ll still struggle with clock management. He just needs to commit to running the ball like he has in previous seasons in Kansas City.

Taking that pressure off of Alex Smith makes him a better quarterback. That’s how KC wins this season. They can look at drafting Smith’s replacement this offseason, but giving up on him now accomplishes nothing. I’m more interested in fixing the offense of a team that is still 7-3 and very much in the playoff hunt then just giving up on this season.

So what do you think, Addicts? Do you agree that the offense has been awful? Do you agree that the problem is that they are putting too much on Alex Smith’s shoulders and he just isn’t good enough to handle it? Do you agree that he is good enough to win with IF (and its a big if) they take the pressure off of him with a productive run game? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!
