Knile Davis

Not unlike Thomas, Knile Davis has spent the past six months on the team’s proverbial bubble. Next to Alex Smith, Davis may be Kansas City’s most polarizing player. His talent has never been in question, but those talents have always been obscured by issues with ball security. That said, Davis has acquitted himself as a game-breaker (in spots).

There’s a section of Chiefs Kingdom that forgets he posted 927 offensive yards and 11 touchdowns in his first two seasons. Couple that with 1,753 kick return yards and two return touchdowns and it’s tough to argue that his time in Kansas City’s been wasted.

At this point, he’s bringing up the rear at his position. Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West are comfortably ahead of him on the depth chart. Reaves may eventually unseat him as a younger, cheaper option. For the time being, Davis is the only proven commodity as a kick returner and that’s his ticket to playing out the final year of his contract in Kansas City.

Some would argue, but I think Davis has shown that he can be a productive starter in this league given the opportunity. It was reported that the Chiefs were shopping him over the summer, but there appeared to be little, if any, interest in acquiring him via trade. He’ll have no trouble finding a new team if he’s cut.

Which of these three players would you least like to become a roster casualty? Between Reaves and Davis, who do you think has the best chance to be the team’s fourth running back? Are there other young players the Chiefs’ loaded roster may force onto the street? Use the comment section below to weigh in. As always, we appreciate your readership and support.
